"Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher"- William Wordsworth

The little things are life are so precious, but are they really little? The millions nd more of those every day little things make this big world. But, the little things sometimes are so small we miss them, we get busy and don't notice, we take them for granted. How the little things can be so big in our hearts, so are they really little?

A simple smile to a passing stranger, whether its a wave of the hand while passing in your car or brief encounter of eye contact and smile exchanged passing on the sidewalk or trail.

  • Sitting back and watching a child swinging high up in the air with the wind blowing and the free feeling they have being lifted up

  • When the sky has been dark, grey and stormy and suddenly it is silenced as it stops, the sun perks out and even for a few seconds. The sun reflects against the distance rain still falling but behold, a rainbow arches across in front of you with the brilliance of colors

  • A tiny droplet of water on a leaf or a branch making a perfect tightly held together droplet. Then the sun sparkles in it to create a tiny prism that glistens

  • The sweet innocent smell of puppy breath with gentle kisses or a nibble on your nose

  • How when water trickles across the rocks in a creek bed it babbles

  • Winter lets go and the tiniest wild flowers pop up in the fauna but if you aren't looking will totally miss

  • Noticing patterns in nature and shapes, there are heart shapes in the snow, a hillside a rock- is that a message and reminder you are loved?

  • How a slimy ugly oyster can take a grain of sand and create a lustrous pearl

Nature is perfect, it is balanced and beautiful. We can pull it apart and give scientific reasons why water and light form a prism but if we get too busy, if we accept "the sun will always come up each morning and stars are out there in the night sky", we miss little moments of perfection that are not so little. If these moments are actually little, why can it fill up your soul so big?

"God is the friend of silence. See how nature- trees, flowers,grass- grows in silence. See the stars, the moon and the sun- how they move in silence. We need silence to be able to touch souls." - Mother Teresa

Times whizzes by so quick; a day, a week, a month, then its years. We forget about the little things and then it slips by unnoticed. We tend to measure time with our productivity, "what did you do today or this week, how did you spend your weekend?" Does anyone ever respond back, " I listened to the birds today, I felt the rain on my face, I watched the sunrise, I saw the first wildflower in the forest". Those extraordinary moments even if we take them in, we don't share that with others like its to minimalism to mention.

Our world was created to perfection, don't be so busy to not appreciate or miss one of those little things in life. When a child wants to play or share with you an imaginative moment, your dog greets you with a happy wag at the door, your cat climbs in your lap with a gentle purr, or the wind blows and whistles in the trees; take it in. Let the million little things brighten your day, there is purpose in every little moment and it can make a big difference in your day.

"Look deep into nature and you will understand everything better" - Albert Einstein
