Relax, Rewind, Rejuvenation

Time to kick back and relax! A summer filled with daily gardening, planting, pruning, upkeep and watering. The daily chores keep busy on 4 acres. When you are retired, live remote in the peaceful woods it almost sounds hypocritical to say its time to get away from it all and relax. Then, you actually take the get away plunge and find out how difficult it can be to really, "relax".

Off to the coast for sand, surf and salty air. Then finding a more remote spot than home for peace and quiet ( really home in the woods is pretty peaceful). No household chores, no gardening, no prep for Winter, no lawn mowing etc....No noise, not many people, no stores, little traffic and a beach miles long with only interactions of a few. I am not very good at sitting around relaxing. A person can only walk so many times a day on the beach, 7 miles and 4 times out each day to be exact. Of course an 11 month old pup with her first visit to the sand can go run on the beach all day. There are birds to chase into the air, smelly left over dead crab and shellfish to toss around and waves to run from as the surf comes in.

None the less, a quiet get away to new destinations is rejuvenating to the soul and attitude. Four days of salty air and sand, had my fill and ready for the woods again. Relaxing is harder than thought out at times, just not the sit around person, but its good to take a break from daily chores. A sunset on the west coast does quiet the heart and help it to be still, but the sunrise at home over the mountain is enlightening.

Sounds of the surf and seagulls is tranquil but home really is where the heart is most happy. Whispering fir trees in the breeze, sounds of squirrels dropping pinecones from the trees and fresh mountain air is much more refreshing than salty sticky breeze.

Rewinding now and getting the gears back and rolling into the mode preparing for Fall, there is no place like home.

So true, even if your job is at home.
